A single total tells you how much and nothing else. The writing log breaks a day down into what the manuscript measured, which of that occurred inside a session you logged, and what belongs to no book at all.
What a day records
Each day lists the books that changed and the sittings within it. A book’s figure is what the manuscript measured. Within that, sessions you logged are identified separately, so the difference between words written inside a deliberate sitting and words written at other times remains visible rather than averaged away.
Writing assigned to no book
A session may be recorded as unassigned, for morning pages or any writing outside a project. It counts toward the day without being attributed to a manuscript.
Logging a session
Sessions may be logged from the browser and from Calamus Ideas on iPhone, which also provides the focus timer. A session logged on either appears in the same record, because both address one account.
The record as evidence
The log is exportable, which is what allows authorship to be demonstrated to somebody outside the account: an editor, an agent, or a platform. It reports pace and revision over time rather than a single figure, and it draws on the same captures the Snapshots history records.
