Phrases is a tab in the Companion panel. It records lines worth reaching for, optionally paired with the plainer version they replace.
What a Phrase stores
- The line to use. Required. This is the Phrase.
- The plainer version it replaces. Optional. Where it is present, the entry is a pair: the tired way and the better one. Where it is absent, the entry is simply a line you want to keep.
- A note. Optional. Why it works, or where it belongs.
The plainer half being optional is the part worth knowing. A Phrase does not have to be a correction. A line you liked and want available later is a valid entry on its own.
Filing a Phrase to a book
A Phrase may be attached to a book or left unattached. Attaching one affects sort order only: with a book open, the Phrases filed to that book sort first and everything else sorts below them. Nothing is hidden. A Phrase filed to one book remains visible and usable while writing another.
How it differs from the Word Bank
The Word Bank stores a word and its definition, and is always account-wide. Phrases stores a line, optionally with what it replaces and a note, and may be filed to a book. If you are recording what a word means, use the Word Bank; if you are recording what to write, use Phrases.
