Research stores the sources and details that inform a book without forming part of the manuscript or the Codex: a citation, a period detail, a photograph of a location. Material is stored in the project and synchronizes with it, so it is available on every device signed in to the account.
What can be saved
Links, facts, images and passages, each with a note recording why it was saved. The note is the part worth writing: a source retrieved months later is of limited use if the reason it was retrieved has been forgotten.
Filing
A research item is attached to the Codex entry or the scene it supports, rather than filed chronologically or by source. Material therefore surfaces at the point of use, in the scene that requires it, rather than requiring a search at the moment it is needed.
Deletion and recovery
A deleted research source is recoverable from Trash for 30 days. Research has no Archive tier, so a source is deleted permanently at the end of that period rather than entering a second window as a chapter or scene does. Deleting a book deletes the research filed under it. The full schedule is in the data deletion notice.
