Royalties
See what every book earned, next to the books themselves.
Royalties is a view of your Library. Import the sales reports your retailers already give you, and Calamus shows your earnings by book, by pen name and by retailer, so the numbers live with the manuscripts and not in a spreadsheet you maintain by hand.
Importing
Upload the report your retailer gives you. Calamus does the sorting.
Amazon KDP
Upload the Prior Month Royalties report exactly as KDP gives it to you, as an .xlsx file. Calamus reads ebook, paperback and hardcover royalties and Kindle Unlimited pages read, for every Amazon marketplace in the report.
Draft2Digital
Upload the Draft2Digital sales report as a .csv file. Sales from the stores Draft2Digital distributes to, such as Kobo and Apple Books, are imported together and shown as Draft2Digital.
Matched to your books
Each title in a report is matched to a book in your Library by ISBN, by an earlier import, or by title, and the preview tells you which one was used.
- Assign a title Calamus does not recognize to one of your books
- Add it as a new book, under an existing pen name or a new one
- Or leave it out of the import
Nothing is saved until you confirm
You see every title, its months, its units and its net royalty before anything is stored. Importing the same report twice replaces the earlier rows instead of adding to them, so a month is never counted double.
Pen names
One report can cover every pen name at once.
A KDP account often holds books under more than one name. Import the report once and Calamus files each title under the pen name it belongs to. Open Royalties on a single pen name to see that name's earnings, or on All Pen Names to see everything together, with a Profitability by Author panel that ranks your pen names by net royalty, units sold and share of the total.
The dashboard
Earnings by month, by book and by retailer.
This month, quarter, year and all-time
Four totals at the top of the page answer the question you opened it for. Switch the period and every panel under them follows.
Monthly net, charted
A chart of net royalties by month shows whether a launch held or a series is still selling. Set the range to 3 months, 6 months, 1 year or everything.
Books, ranked by net
Every book that sold in the period, ordered by what it earned, with its units beside it. Sort by top performing or by title.
By retailer
See how much of the period came from Amazon KDP and how much from Draft2Digital, as an amount and as a share.
Kindle Unlimited pages read
Pages read are charted by month on their own, beside sales, since Kindle Unlimited pays by the page and KDP reports it separately.
A page for each book
Open a book to see its net royalty, units and Kindle Unlimited pages for this month, last month, this year and all-time, with a breakdown by year and by format.
Currencies
Dollars, pounds and euros are never added together.
Retailers pay in the currency of each store, and a total that mixes them is not a real number. Calamus keeps every currency a report contains and shows one at a time, starting with the one that appears most in your reports. Choose another from the currency menu to see those sales, and the page tells you when rows in other currencies are not included in what you are looking at.
